HP Spectre X360 14

Design

The chassis of the HP Spectre x360 14 remains identical to the 2019 Ice Lake model. The XPS 13 2-in-1 is still the smaller and lighter option, but the more rigid HP system manages to include a few more features as a result of its thicker profile. The Spectre x360 14 is slightly heavier and significantly longer due to its 3:2 aspect ratio.

Processor

The HP Spectre X360 14 is equipped with the Intel Core i7-1165G7 is a higher-end, quad-core SoC designed to be used in ultra-thin laptops. The Tiger Lake-UP3 processor was unveiled in September 2020. It has four Hyper-Threading-enabled Willow Cove cores at its disposal running at 2.8 GHz (base clock speed @ 28 W TDP) Boosting up to 4.7 GHz (single-core Boost frequency). The all-core Boost frequency is 4.1 GHz. This i7 was the second-fastest CPU of the TGL-UP3 lineup when Intel initially launched the series in 2020. Core i7-1165G7 is ever-so-slightly inferior to the Core i7-1185G7 in that the vPro support is nowhere to be found, the clock speeds are lower, and the iGPU’s clock speed is a little lower as well.

Display

The HP Spectre X360 14 has 13.5″ diagonal, FHD (1920 x 1080), multitouch-enabled, IPS, edge-to-edge glass, micro-edge, anti-reflection Corning® Gorilla® Glass NBT™, 1000 nits, 72% NTSC, HP Sure View integrated privacy screen

Keyboard

The keyboard remains identical to the 2019 Spectre x360 14 including even the symbols on each key. The Spectre and EliteBook series are home to some of our favorite laptop keyboards and so the lack of any gen-to-gen changes here isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Feedback, travel, and clatter still feel crisper, deeper, and quieter than on most other Ultrabooks for a satisfying typing experience

Touchpad

The clickpad also remains identical to the 2019 version in both feedback and dimensions (~11.1 x 5.6 cm). Its smooth surface is firm when pressed and with loud but satisfying clatter. Our main issue with the clickpad is that clicking requires a bit more force than usual meaning it can get tiring to use if you don’t have an external mouse.

Verdict

The biggest reason for choosing the Spectre x360 14 with 11th gen Intel instead of the older Spectre x360 14 with 10th gen Intel is its increase in graphics performance. The 60 to 100 percent jump over the Iris Plus G7 in the 2019 Spectre x360 14 is significant enough to be noticeable for editors and light gamers.
