Design
HP has translated the existing luxurious HP Spectre X360 14 design and metal materials to the new 3:2 form factor without any surprises. Both the base and lid exhibit little flexing and no creaking when attempting to twist their corners or depress their surfaces. Chassis rigidity doesn’t feel any better or worse than the Asus ZenBook S or XPS 13, but its gold trims are arguably classier. One thing we would improve is the rigidity of the hinges at certain angles. The lid falls over too easily once it reaches past 120 degrees which can be annoying when typing or transporting the laptop. This also doesn’t give a good sense of longevity as the hinges will inevitably become weaker over time.
Design with a unique presence
Sharply cut side, Two-tone body full of luxury, premium logo shining on the top surface. Spectre’s identity is a beautiful design with an absolute presence that other PCs don’t have.
The body of HP Spectre 14 Convertible is carved out of the aluminum mass, achieves lightness with a smooth texture, prevents rust, corrosion, wear, etc., and has the strength to clear 350 kgf in the top pressurization test. We have achieved both the lightness and strength required for mobile PCs at a high level.
The design HP Spectre 14 Convertible is not just about beauty. For example, the charging port provided diagonally in the right back of the main body is designed so that the cord of the AC adapter during charging is difficult to get in the way. You can reserve the right workspace to move the mouse or take notes.
Processor
The HP Spectre X360 14 is equipped with the Intel Core i7-1165G7 is a higher-end, quad-core SoC designed to be used in ultra-thin laptops. The Tiger Lake-UP3 processor was unveiled in September 2020. It has four Hyper-Threading-enabled Willow Cove cores at its disposal running at 2.8 GHz (base clock speed @ 28 W TDP) Boosting up to 4.7 GHz (single-core Boost frequency). The all-core Boost frequency is 4.1 GHz. This i7 was the second-fastest CPU of the TGL-UP3 lineup when Intel initially launched the series in 2020. Core i7-1165G7 is ever-so-slightly inferior to the Core i7-1185G7 in that the vPro support is nowhere to be found, the clock speeds are lower, and the iGPU’s clock speed is a little lower as well.
Verdict
Thanks to the Core i7-1165G7, 16 GB of dual-channel RAM (soldered-in, non-expandable) and a 1 TB SSD, the Spectre x360 14 can handle all workloads that are relevant for a device like this. Two Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 ports allow users to connect docking stations or even an external GPU to the convertible. The OLED screen with a 3:2 aspect ratio is the main feature of the HP Spectre x360 14.
